SO WHETHER THESE HATEFUL WEAPONS COME AT YOU FACE TO FACE OR THE INVISIBILITY OF SOCIAL MEDIA THEN IT IS TIME TO FIGHT BACK……….WITH LOVE! LOVE IS A WEAPON OF LIGHT AND CAN BANISH THE DARKNESS OF HATE. SO OFFER LOVE AND KINDNESS THE NEXT TIME YOU ARE CONFRONTED BY A BULLY AND WATCH THE DARKNESS DISAPPEAR. IT WILL TAKE CONSIDERABLE STRENGTH NOT TO FIGHT BACK WITH ANIMOSITY AND BITTERNESS BUT I KNOW HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME ON THIS JOURNEY AND I HAVE TRUST IN YOU TO TAKE THE RIGHT PATH AT THE NEXT CROSSROADS.

In your fifties your body starts to deteriorate more rapidly. We all know what we are supposed to be doing to stay healthy and there are anti ageing articles and products all around us. Regular readers of this blog will be armed with many facts on how to slow the process down. But let me make it clear you cannot anti age and you cannot reverse the process. Those that try hard to look younger end up looking older. HOWEVER you CAN slow the process. I know you are intelligent lot and these days women are armed with great knowledge but are you actually putting that knowledge into practise ?? So let me put it into one age defying capsule for you today and look at the three areas where you can make changes TODAY. Food , exercise and mental activity………..
Eat well but limit the portion size. Portion sizes have increased over the years eat on smaller plates at home or share a main if eating out with friends or even order a starter portion. As you get older you need less food and your metabolism slows down. I personally eat one meal a day between 2-4 pm and at 56 i am still a healthy size 10. I have a green smoothie at midday loaded with goodness (find the recipe under the ‘Food’ section.
There is a growing consensus now that breakfast is a meal to be skipped to enable you to consume less calories, But also the longer you can wait to break your fast from the day before the better it is for your body and your joints to rest and rejuvenate them. Time restricted eating is the best thing you can do for your body as you get older even if you follow this pattern Monday to Friday then let loose on the weekends. Try to give your bodys’ digestive system a complete break when you can from 6PM to maybe midday the following day. This has been shown to bring inflammation down within the internal organs and the joints. Eating often throughout the day to stoke the metabolism has now been disproven as a method to lose weight and the must eat a big breakfast mantra began in the 1920s by breakfast food manufacturers.
Do not deny yourself foods that you love but in moderation. In your fifties healthy eating must become a way of life give up on the ‘diets’ and learn to make great meals containing fresh unprocessed ingredients. Simple uncomplicated meals can bring great pleasure to the senses. I particularly love the Hemsley sisters recipes. ITS ALL EASY by Gwyneth Paltrow and EAT, NOURISH,GLOW by Amelia Freer. Most of these meals can be put together in the time it takes to have a takeaway delivered. Once you start to eat clean you wont want to pollute your body with dirty food again. Excess SUGAR in your diet is one of the fastest ways to age your skin and your body try to avoid it where possible. But of course allow yourself a red wine or even a clean spirit like agave tequila !!! Drink more water as you get older your body needs to be constantly hydrated to work correctly and also skin looks more plumped at least 2 litres a day.
Have fun discovering wonderful food and clean up your diet in small steps to give your skin a healthy glow and fill your body with energy and reducing inflammation start today to slow the ageing process and prevent you from dealing with early on set illnesses due to proper nutrition.

I am a big fan of Yoga and pilates more gentle yet strengthening exercise regime that also provides mental clarity and anti stress benefits. While weight control is 80% of what we eat and less about exercise, but exercise certainly slows the ageing process down. I personally am not a fan of high octane exercise like running and aerobics as they can be impactive on older joints and the Japanese believe that you only have so many breaths in your body so to continually be overworking the heart cause a shorter life. But I AM an advocate of you doing what YOU love as long as you are moving. A beautiful walk every day can be wonderful for destressing , getting fit and slowing the ageing process. Or a competitive sport such as tennis, badminton, volleyball etc where you have to keep score and form strategy can be great for mental health as well as not feeling like exercise if you are enjoying the activity and the company.
A quick word about weight training . Buy yourself some hand weights and use them a few times a day, whilst your waiting for the kettle to boil it is important to strengthen your bones and muscles with weight bearing exercises to prevent /delay oesteoporosis .
The message here is just keep moving , every day to delay ageing but enjoy whatever it is you are doing. Lets keep that body oiled rather than rusty.
Also important to keep the mind oiled too. Regular followers can follow the Midweek Mantras on this site posted every Wednesday for tasks and inspirations to restore mental wellbeing or binge the blog history if in need of lots of Mentaal inspiration to kick start you out of a rut. Keep a Gratitude Journal to keep you positive. Three things every morning that you are grateful for , it is a way of training the neuron pathways in your brain. Buy a lovely notebook and a pen in a beautiful coloured ink. This works try it. Also it is important as we get older to continue learning, no guys this does not have to be a major programme you are undertaking like a Masters degree or a new language. How about Renaissance Art or French Wines ? Combine books with heading to Art Galleries or Wine Tastings. Make new friends with these common interests providing stimulating conversations. Sudoku, crosswords to exercise the mental agility side of your mind as well as the creative. Learning a musical instrument via the many apps available has been proven to keep a mind young , you are never to old to start learning.
Stress is the biggest ager both on the outside and the inside. So try to combat stress wherever necessary. But this is one thing that DOES improve with age the ability to cope with stress and view life differently , in a more relaxed manner. Yoga and Pilates as mentioned before really does help with this it is a workout for the mind as well as the body and also regulates deep breathing. Combatting stress is a lengthy subject and deserves an article all on its own and I am sure that by now you have this covered.

SWITCH YOUR FOCUS AND WORRY ABOUT OTHERS. MANY OF US THINK THAT IN ORDER TO OVERCOME CHALLENGES IN OUR LIFE WE NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON THEM. BUT USUALLY FROM A MENTAL PERSPECTIVE THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE. SO THIS WEEK I WANT YOU TO FOCUS ON SOMEONE ELSES CHALLENGES OR THEIR PAIN. LEAVE YOUR OWN WORRIES BEHIND.
THIS MIND SWITCH IS QUITE POWERFUL AND YOU WILL FIND IT REWARDING AND YOUR SPIRITS WILL BE LIFTED. YOU MAY FIND YOUR OWN PROBLEMS HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THEMSELVES WHILE YOU HAVE BEEN AWAY.

With mental health problems continuing to soar in these anxious times and access to NHS services severely restricted it is not time to give up ! Do not disappear further down a deep dark hole if you feel there is no outside help, it is time to help yourself. Let us do this together.
Here are some helpful points to give yourself a therapy session. After all no one knows you better than you know yourself The worst thing you can do is nothing at all while you are on the waiting list for professional help and who knows by time you have practised this list you may decide you no longer need professional therapy.
The following methods have helped many of my clients with their mental health who have sought my help in my capacity of a professional Sound Healing Therapist and have certainly helped myself too. It is very important to examine your own mental health regularly as you would examine say your breasts for lumps.
So here are the 5 rules:
What do you need when you find yourself in a difficult period ? Most people at this time will NOT feel like going out to clubs and socialising but you may feel like walking your dog in the countryside or curling up on the sofa with a great movie. So identify what YOU need to feel better and allow yourself the time to do WHATEVER COMFORTS YOU .
Define the situation. Write it down. relationships, money, friends or general lethargy. Be brutally honest with yourself . Are you part of the problem? Self examination is a great tool. But if you are really finding this difficult or this does not fit with your personality type then enlist the help of a friend to talk it through with, but ask them to be honest and open too. The method of self examination works for many but it depends on the type of person you are.
There is a danger of thinking none of this is your fault otherwise then you cannot effect change.
Analyse the situation. How it happened ? Why it happened ? When did you start feeling this way ? What prompted this feeling? Again write it down.
How can you make this better ? What do YOU want ? Step outside of yourself and look in as an outsider. De personalise for a moment.
What would you tell your Son/Daughter/best friend if they were in the same situation ?
Visualise how you would like to feel. Dream how you would like to be. Write down your goals to achieving this.
TALK. To someone. Anyone. This does not have to be a trained therapist. Do not bottle things up. Sometimes just releasing pent up feelings can see a marked improvement in mood.
It is time to take control before it gets out of control.

WHEN YOU NEED TO TELL THE TRUTH, HAVE THE COURAGE TO OPEN YOUR HEART AS WELL AS YOUR MOUTH.
WHEN YOU NEED TO HEAR THE TRUTH, HAVE THE HUMILITY TO OPEN YOUR EARS AND CLOSE YOUR MOUTH.

Now I realise many people are in denial about climate change but no one can deny that we are ruining our planet with at best poor housekeeping and at worst dirty filthy habits. There also can be NO denial that we can nurture our planet by all just making a few subtle changes to our lifestyle.
I decided to write about this following a dinner party discussion which involved us listing how green we were. Now I have never really thought about myself as being a green activist but I was surprised how “green” I actually live. I know I could do more but what I do , I do on a consistent basis, without too much trouble or hardship. So I will list the things that I came up with over the dinner table, which I am sure most of you already do, but if you don’t try to make some small adjustments to help clean our beautiful planet up. If I can do it, I am pretty sure you can. The planet is a thing of beauty to be handled with care and passed onto the many generations to whom we pass the baton.
Always shower and only for 30 seconds unless i am washing my hair, rarely bath.
I generate only half a small bag of waste each week.
Turn tap off while cleaning my teeth
I do not class myself as a vegetarian but I only meat about once every two months
Do not buy fast disposable fashion. I shop for clothes twice a year not twice a week ( or as some people do twice a day !!!)
No longer buy bottled water I bought a Brita filter jug but I use the filter three times longer than recommended. I have a reusable bottle for life for water on the go.
Energy efficient . I only have lights on in the room that is being occupied.
Installed solar panels on my roof to lower my energy bills.
Make my own cleaning products from white wine vinegar/lemon juice and soda crystals to cut down my chemical waste.
Now take trains for long journeys (this is new to me !!) but they are much better than I recall.
I have hessian lifetime shopping bags.
Buy loose fruit and vegetables and don’t even use the plastic bags on the rack they go onto the conveyer belt singularly !!
Oh… and I only have one child. Now I would never, unlike Meghan and Harry tell you how many children to have. Even though they now have gone against their own advice. Do as they say not as they do has become their mantra ! But just saying. This is only about me.
I certainly do not want to become a green preacher but these are all simple things to inject into your everyday life without too much planning. Think, if we all did these basic things what a massive difference we could make collectively.

Arthritis can hit you at any age. but as you get older or menopausal it is more common than you think. Many of us suffer from stiff joints. I was diagnosed with Osteoarthiritis in my spine about 10 years ago in my early forties. At the time I was walking with two sticks and having regular steroid injections in my spine under anaesthetic. My prognosis was ” you will not get any better but we cannot say how fast it will deteriorate” when it spread to my fingers, elbows and toes, I sprang into action.
Today I play tennis, do yoga have a full and active life and no longer use sticks and definitely no more steroids. Even my consultant has noted down full details of how I fought arthritis and won.
So today I am going to share with you my anti inflammatory diet.Passed to me by a friend in Hollywood.The town of all things healthy. This changed my life and I notice an immediate improvement if you stick to it for 3 days per month only. As I have been busy for the last few months I have omitted for the first time in having my anti inflammatory diet days and my joints have noticeably started to stiffen again.
It consists of a smoothie, hot drink and a soup. You can have as much as you want . I have JUST this. But if you need some solid food stick to fish and vegetables. NO red meat, sugar,carbs, eggs or chicken. No dairy, (cheese is difficult to give up for me ) and absolutely NO COFFEE!! Keep it fairly simple so your body does not have to work too hard.
1 Lime , cranberries, blueberries,cucumber,spoonful of avocado,a few walnuts, teaspoon of spirulina(alkaline).
Whizz up in your blender with lots of ice ( it always tastes better chilled).
Have every morning on an empty stomach.
Make enough in one go to drink throughout the day so you can let it steep.
Boil in a big pan. 8 lemons, 8 tablespoons of dried parsley,3 tablespoons celery seed,1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder,1/4 grated ginger root. 10 cups of water.
Once billed just leave it to steep. Sieve the tea.Then once cooled leave in a jug in the refrigerator. Heat up and drink throughout the day or have chilled in the Summer months.
Make a big pot for you to have throughout the day.
2 cups of root vegetables, parsnips, carrots,swede. 2 cups of sweet potato, 2 cups of greens (preferably kale), 1 red onion, 5 celery stalks, a cup of mixed mushrooms, garlic and fresh coriander.
Boil then simmer for an hour. Blend to a puree add more water to achieve a consistency you prefer. This soup does not look pretty but it is actually delicious. When my friends visit and I am on my anti inflammatory days they always love a bowl of this, in fact I am sure they pop around on purpose !!!
Treat yourself gently during these 3 days lots of Epsom salts baths or book a professional lymphatic massage.
I hope this works for you in easing the inflammation like it works for me, but you lose nothing by trying…..except perhaps some excess weight and the sugar ring around your waist.
