FOOD: FIGHTING ARTHIRITIS WITH DIET

Arthritis can hit you at any age. but as you get older or menopausal it is more common than you think. Many of us suffer from stiff joints. I was diagnosed with Osteoarthiritis in my spine about 10 years ago in my early forties. At the time I was walking with two sticks and having regular steroid injections in my spine under anaesthetic. My prognosis was ” you will not get any better but we cannot say how fast it will deteriorate” when it spread to my fingers, elbows and toes, I sprang into action.

Today I play tennis, do yoga have a full and active life and no longer use sticks and definitely no more steroids. Even my consultant has noted down full details of how I fought arthritis and won.

So today I am going to share with you my anti inflammatory diet.Passed to me by a friend in Hollywood.The town of all things healthy. This changed my life and I notice an immediate improvement if you stick to it for 3 days per month only. As I have been busy for the last few months I have omitted for the first time in having my anti inflammatory diet days and my joints have noticeably started to stiffen again.

It consists of a smoothie, hot drink and a soup. You can have as much as you want . I have JUST this. But if you need some solid food stick to fish and vegetables. NO red meat, sugar,carbs, eggs or chicken. No dairy, (cheese is difficult to give up for me ) and absolutely NO COFFEE!! Keep it fairly simple so your body does not have to work too hard.

Smoothie

1 Lime , cranberries, blueberries,cucumber,spoonful of avocado,a few walnuts, teaspoon of spirulina(alkaline).

Whizz up in your blender with lots of ice ( it always tastes better chilled).

Have every morning on an empty stomach.

Hot Drink

Make enough in one go to drink throughout the day so you can let it steep.

Boil in a big pan. 8 lemons, 8 tablespoons of dried parsley,3 tablespoons celery seed,1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder,1/4 grated ginger root. 10 cups of water.

Once billed just leave it to steep. Sieve the tea.Then once cooled leave in a jug in the refrigerator. Heat up and drink throughout the day or have chilled in the Summer months.

Soup

Make a big pot for you to have throughout the day.

2 cups of root vegetables, parsnips, carrots,swede. 2 cups of sweet potato, 2 cups of greens (preferably kale), 1 red onion, 5 celery stalks, a cup of mixed mushrooms, garlic and fresh coriander.

Boil then simmer for an hour. Blend to a puree add more water to achieve a consistency you prefer. This soup does not look pretty but it is actually delicious. When my friends visit and I am on my anti inflammatory days they always love a bowl of this, in fact I am sure they pop around on purpose !!!

Treat yourself gently during these 3 days lots of Epsom salts baths or book a professional lymphatic massage.

I hope this works for you in easing the inflammation like it works for me, but you lose nothing by trying…..except perhaps some excess weight and the sugar ring around your waist.

BEAUTY:HOW TO MULTITASK YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE

We are all short of time and as we get older there seems to soon much more maintenance required to looking good. So I am going to show you how to maximise your beauty routine to look and feel your very best in the minimum time. As like you , I am extremely busy I feel I have perfected multitasking in many areas of my life it may feel difficult to start with but it will soon become habit. Remember girls and boys it takes 21 days of repetition to form a habit.

These mats are acupressure mats it really is like an acupuncture session it is fantastic for blood flow,cellulite and energy. I lie on mine EVERY morning for 20 minutes . In that 20 minutes I manage to do the following.

  • Hair Mask(weekly) my personal favourite is the Reincarnation Mask, Bleach London £7.50. This works I promise you. Every other day before I wash my hair I massage organic sesame oil into my hair at this time.

  • LED Facial Mask Dr Dennis Gross £430 Cult Beauty. I put this on daily to boost the collagen and give my skin a radiant glow. This has made a big difference to my skin. I know this is expensive but you can use this time to put a layer of Vitamin C on your skin and allow to sink in slowly.Super Facialist Vit C and glow serum £17 is fab ! Once a week replace this with a sheet mask . Whatever mask you use ensure it is a no rinse mask just massage the goodness into your skin. To save time.

  • I oil my body with organic sesame oil massaging into knees and elbows ,fingers and toes to help the joints and ageing of these areas. Prior to showering. Rinse off your skin will be smooth and silky.
  • Rub whitening toothpaste/coconut oil onto your teeth for extra whitening and sparkle.
  • Skin softener on the feet every day. Once a week foot peel socks or mask for beautiful feet. If you pay attention to your feet daily it saves so much time and is nigh on impossible to remove hard skin once its built up.

  • Finally meditate while your laying there all relaxed for 20 minutes.
  • Jump in the shower and rinse it all off.

Once this becomes habit you will get faster at your preparation stage.

Instead of spending time drying (or overdrying) your hair and styling it. Quick rough dry pop in some big velcro rollers for smooth and bouncy hair. Do your make up, get dressed take the rollers out and voila ! Good to go.

On the assumption no one does their own manicures and pedicures anymore. Next time you are in your nail bar have them both done at the same time whilst getting your eyebrows threaded, whilst the massage chair gives you a thorough pummelling.

TRAVEL:GET ON BOARD PLANE ETIQUETTE

Bad behaviour always becomes more pronounced when you are crammed into a confined area when there is no escape ! Having just returned from another long haul trip it never fails to surprise me how inconsiderate some people can be of others. This can occur in First , business or economy class it is not limited. So to prevent situations escalating higher than the 36 000 feet you are flying at and your blood pressure reaching a higher temperature than your destination let me highlight some situations where your own behaviour may need to be checked in with your baggage !

Following my recent article on the downfall of manners many of you contacted me about manners on aeroplanes so I have consolidated your gripes into the following list. So lets work together to bring back the joy to travel !!

  • I have never quite understood passengers that travel with quite so much hand luggage to save them 20 minutes at the other end. Lugging it all around the lounge when it could be easily checked in to ensure you have a far more relaxing and enjoyable time. BUT there is nothing more infuriating than all this hand luggage clogging up the queues at security while all these cases are unpacked and repacked. Make everyones jobs easier and waiting times quicker and CHECK IT IN !!!!
  • When boarding an aircraft WITH ALL YOUR HAND LUGGAGE move out of the gangway as soon as possible so boarding can take place as quick as possible. I have seen passengers leisurely unpacking in the aisle totally oblivious to the 400 people waiting to pass by.
  • Recently travelling in Business class on a £7000 air fare to enable me to sleep before a meeting that I was heading to I was mortified to find I was seated next to a baby that literally cried ALL night. Message to parents its all in the title BUSINESS class for business people who need to work on the run. Even if you all travelled Business and First all your life you have to adjust when you have a baby please consider other passengers. I would never have booked my baby into a business cabin I promise you we went everywhere by coach class. Message to airlines PLEASE make Business and First cabins child free until at least the age of 12 when they can actually appreciate it and WE can appreciate them. Remember people are paying thousands of pounds (and other currencies) JUST to avoid babies and badly behaved children.
  • On the subject of children . Parents please stay in control. DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD KICK THE BACK OF THE SEAT IN FRONT FOR 11 CONSECUTIVE HOURS ! It is entirely up to you to keep them occupied.
  • Reclining seats are a feature on all airlines in all classes let the person behind know that you are reclining the seat beforehand ensuring they don’t have any drinks/food on the tray behind. ALWAYS put your seat upright at meal times out of courtesy for the person seated behind to give them room to enjoy their meal. We know how cramped it can be to dine on a plane.
  • What ever personal habits you have developed in your own personal space leave them there. A plane is NOT your own personal space. Do not subject your fellow travellers to nose picking, throat clearing, feet picking , wind breaking, sniffing, cutting nails (yes it really happens). Remember other people have THEIR own personal space too. Respect it.
  • Please I beg you, NO BARE FEET. Of course you want to remove outdoor footwear on a long haul flight I get it, replace these with flight socks or flight slippers. Don’t put your feet on the arms of the seats in front or on the top of the seat or ON THE FOOD TRAY. A flurry of you tube videos have been posted recently showing just this.
  • Check the volume of your headphones. Sitting next to someone with constant tinny noise of music that you don’t like and even if you do like it is so annoying after the first 3 hours.
  • Toilet time. OMG how long does it take ? What are you people doing in there ????? When there is approx one restroom between 100 passengers please be aware that there will probably be 10 people waiting with crossed legs outside. Do what you have to do quickly and efficiently then leave. Oh after you have tidied up your mess on the seat , on the floor and in the sink and sanitised the entire area . I avoid these dreadful cubicles if I possibly can so when I need to go I need to go so GET OUT OF THERE !
  • Finally please treat cabin crew with respect and courtesy. do not demand and say please and thank you. They have a difficult job and a limited time to do it in. Stay in your seat while they are serving from the trolley , although I have it on good authority the Captain always creates some turbulence during these times and the seatbelt sign just must go on…..

There will be points here that we all recognise and there may be some we are guilty of ourselves if this is you. STOP. THINK. Let us make air travel a more beautiful experience like it used to be.

FEELING STRESSED AND EXHAUSTED ? FEEL LIKE YOUR CHASING THE CLOCK EVERY DAY. WELL TODAY I HAVE A SIMPLE TASK . LOOK AT WHAT YOU CAN DELEGATE. AT WORK MAKE A LIST OF TASKS THAT DO NOT NEED TO BE DONE BY YOU, OR INDEED AT ALL. SEE WHAT YOU CAN DELEGATE TO OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR TEAM SOME OF THEM MAY LIKE THE ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND BE FLATTERED THAT YOU TRUST THEM.

THEN LOOK AT ALL THE CHORES YOU DO AT HOME. SHARE THE TASKS TO YOUR PARTNER , YOUR CHILDREN,ETC. IT REALLY IS QUITE CHEAP TO BUY HELP TO FREE UP YOUR TIME. MAYBE OUTSIDE HELP FOR THE IRONING OR WASHING THE CAR PERHAPS. A CLEANER JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS A WEEK.

IT IS YOUR TIME AND YOUR LIST. BUT IT IS TIME TODAY TO TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT HOW YOU CAN MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER. THINK OF THE WONDERFUL THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES WITH MORE TIME.
