Now a new era is dawning it is time to start laughing again.
So today your task is to make a list of the things, places and people that make you laugh then choose at least one to arrange a date with. I promise you even the act of making the list you will have a smile in your face.
When was the last time you really had a good belly laugh. When we are children we do this several times a day but we forget how to do it as we get older and responsibilities take over.
As I have designated this National Laughter Day, even if you don’t feel like laughing try faking it until you make it ! Sound HA HA HA HEE HEE HEE HO HO HO until you break into spontaneous laughter and releases endorphins into your brain and body. Your day will fill lighter. I challenge you to turn around any errors that occur today and see the funny side.

After being bombarded with pictures of Judy Murrays “remarkable transformation” to her skin on various media platforms I started to think , like many other women maybe I should give it a go. Especially to target my lip lines as , regular readers will know is my nemesis….nothing works (and a non smoker !!!). Even though I could see her make up and lighting in the latter pictures were completely different. Apparently Amanda Holden and Kim Kardashian are advocates. But be aware some celebrities are paid to endorse without even having the treatment !
However if you google this treatment there are scores of positive promotion on line, but look closely these are nearly all clinics who offer the treatment or seem lie genuine clients but their sites are linked to the clinics ! Even magazines seem to have avoided the Morpheus 8 debate. So i thought i would do an honest appraisal of my own experience and a few friends that genuinely also had the treatment with mixed results.
This treatment does not come cheap £500 per session, although I am aware of many clinics charging up to £1500 per session. A minimum of 3 sessions is, of course recommended. So I booked my first session in a reputable clinic in Knightsbridge.
WHAT IS MORPHEUS 8 ?
This treatment combines micro needling and infra red. The needles are 7mm long to penetrate extra deep. It targets the dermis and sub dermis to remodel collagen by localised heating.
Ensure you have not used any retinol or peels on your skin two weeks before and also no fillers or botox during this period. Anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin for 40 minutes prior to the treatment, so take a magazine with you as salons no longer supply them during this time. Apprehensive with the amount of anaesthetic cream required, but the treatment was bearable just a little uncomfortable. Although the neck was slightly more painful . Like hundreds of electric shocks with a soldering iron. All over in 20 minutes.
There is an alarming smell of burning flesh and when I look in the mirror afterwards I understand why . A rather sunburned face is staring back at me . Back to the 1970s after a week in Ibiza with just a slather of olive oil on my face. My face literally feels fried and I even have the small oblongs on my skin of the deep fat fryer !
I can’t possibly get on the tube like this. So I called “the bodyguard” to pick me up outside the salon. Directly outside. Well never have I been so pleased to be wearing a mask but even as I ran to the Range Rover I managed to scare the life out of all the people sitting in the coffee shop next door. or perhaps they thought I was a celeb in my mask, dark glasses and baseball cap !
AFTER THE TREATMENT
I was assured by my therapist (the one that did my treatment not the one I have had to have counselling with following the treatment) that the redness would disappear within 24 hours and certainly on line it does state minimal downtime. THIS IS NOT TRUE. It has taken at least two weeks for the burns and welts to disappear and even a month on even though there are no visible signs my skin still feels scalded.
I did actually feel like a burns victim it was hard to sleep, my skin was sore and tight, was this the tightness benefit they meant ? What do we do to ourselves as women in the name of beauty. If it was not in the name of beauty we would have GoFundME pages set up for injuries like this?
Surely sunburn is based on the same principles UVC damages the upper layer, UVB penetrates the epidermal layer and UVA rays damage the cells even deeper causing the cells to fight back and are stimulated to heal through collagen being stimulated. How do we know until many years later the real damage these machines are doing to our deeper layers until it is too late ? Do you remember the Isolagen scandal about 10 years ago with the promise of youth taking skin cells from your face and centrifuging them before injecting the cells back in a month later, at £5000 a pop. Found to be totally untrue and a court case ensued with many women claiming damages.
In the interest of fairness I have had three other friends try the treatment two are of the exact same opinion as myself but I must say that one of my friends is delighted with the treatment, she is not sure if she has seen a difference to her skin but her therapist did show her a 3D image of the improvement in her subcutaneous layer………
I am not convinced until I see a difference in the mirror and results on the promises I was sold. Even though I have only had one treatment apparently I should still see SOME results although It was made clear that your results are clearer after three. One month on I have seen NO differences and I did take my own photographs as clinics know the art of photograph before and after treatments. NO difference. Even worse I can’t help thinking I have actually damaged my skin.Will I book my next session…….NO…….maybe another week in Ibiza……..minus my usual 50+ sunblock !!
NOTE: This article is my own personal view and is clearly unsponsored. However like many beauty treatments/products this may work for you but it did not work for me. But I hope it at least gives you pause for thought.

Firstly it was all about the brows now it is all about the lips ! So check out this guide for the perfect lips to insert into your regular beauty routine
Yes your lips need exfoliating as well as your skin. Lips can become dry with dead skin. Exfoliating can also make lips plumper. Dont forget your lip lines too. Use a toothbrush , even brush your lips when you brush your teeth ! You can make your own exfoliator by combining some sugar and coconut oil. Remember treat your lips gently don’t overdo it. Weekly is fine.
Moisterise for lovely soft lips. No need to buy expensive lip creams which seem to have flooded the market recently. Nothing beats vaseline especially the ‘rosy lips” small hanbag tins or even a slick of coconut oil. But for ease of application an inexpensive lip balm stick will suffice. Apply regularly throughout the day.
Important to apply sunscreen to lips when in the sunshine. I know this to my detriment as I now possess a lovely dark age spot on my lower lip. Most brans of reputable sunscreens now contain a lipscreen too. Additionally many lip balms include an SPF make sure yours does.
The current trend is for plump Kardashian like lips. There are some tricks to making lips plumper. Many products on the market now are geared to giving the illusion of plumper lips they work on stimulating the blood vessels enabling a rush of blood to the lips leaving your lips tingly. Try using some at home remedies combining peppermint oil or cayenne pepper with coconut oil and rubbing onto the lips. I have also used a slice of fresh ginger rubbed over the lips it seems to wok quite nicely but all these are temporary solutions.
Make up tricks to try is a sparkly lip gloss or shadow in your central bottom lip and a white pencil highlighter in the cupids bow area. But generally glossy lips tend to look plumper than matte lips . If you cannot find the perfect colour in a lip gloss start with a clear one over your favourite lipstick.
As a last resort lips can be plumped with hyaluronic acid like Juvederm. But do your homework and work on friends recommendations only. Start with 0.5ml until you get your desired look. For lip lines this is the most effective treatment . I have tried everything for those of you who are regular followers of my blog you will know my pet hate are my lip lines !!! I am now very tempted to try the juvederm filler in them. I have tried every solution on the beauty shelves for lip lines …. nothing works. Would love to hear from any of you that have any other solution for lip lines.
Always start with a lip liner the same colour as your lips or a neutral shade but feather it in toward your lips. No harsh lines. By feathering inwards it stops the lipstick bleeding. Glosses tend to work better on this front too as they have less propensity to bleed.
Remember to choose your colour to suit your own colouring. Refer back to previous blogs on discovering your colour to establish yours. If you have warm, golden tones you will tend to suit more coral and scarlett shades. Cooler colouring and pale skin will suit crimsons and pinky hues. Spend a day lipstick shopping as your true colour can really take years off your look. Even though matte lipsticks tend to be longer lasting they also can be very drying on a more mature lip so choose a moisterising glossy lipstick but just keep applying.

Glasses are bang on trend right now. I know some people who wear glasses with plain lenses just to accessorise their overall look. but for some people it is a more permanent part of the way they look so it is essential that you select the right ones for you to maintain your super stylish (if you have been following this blog !) look. so whether it is reading glasses, driving glasses, all day glasses or sunglasses here is a style guide.
Glasses should not only complement your face but also your lifestyle and wardrobe. Think of them like jewellery they can add to or ruin an overall look. Either way they make a statement…..about you. Beware of overly fashionable styles as they will date quickly.
With metal frames if you have a cool colouring you will suit silver and a warmer tone will suit gold frames. If you are unsure hold a piece of gold or silver jewellery close to the face one will light up your complexion. If your preference is a coloured frame, then warmer skin tones will suit tan or tortoiseshell frames. Cooler tones will suit grey or cool blue. Only those with strong colouring and defined brows should consider black frames. If you have dyed hair consider its natural colour golden tones will suit warmer colours and ash tones or silver/grey will suit cooler colours.
Firstly let us consider your face shape. The shape of your glasses should balance your face shape. If you have a long face a wider style will look better. But a diamond shape face where the widest point is your cheekbones a narrower style will under emphasize the area. If you want to enhance your cheekbones for example on an oval face then choose a larger frame and maybe some detailed arms. Oval faces are lucky as most shapes suit their faces it is more about scale. A square face shape with wide cheekbones AND wide jawline than circular/aviator frames are good for softening defined lines and can look super stylish on this face shape.Avoid detail on the arms. On the other hand round faces should steer away from round glasses . Squared, angular or aviator are a much better choice and add definition and go larger.
Also especially for men body shape should be considered both in size and shape. Consider height, weight and bone structure. The size of the glasses you choose small, medium or large should correspond. Also determine if you are predominately straight or curved. A good gauge is to study the shoulders , ‘coat hanger’ shoulders (right angles) would demonstrate an angular body and softer line shoulders would be curved. So more sharper angular styles will suit you if you are an angular type. Whereas if you are trying to correct a very round face and your body is also curved ensure the angles on the glasses are soft angular edges.
Finally the glasses have to suit your personality and personal style. if you have a dramatic personality and wear clothing that is equally dramatic then your glasses will fit in with that style. Whilst more natural types your glasses will be low key,not too dressy or formal. Classic dressers should choose neat glasses neither too big or too small that blend easily with your outfits. Remebr choose glasses that complement you and your wardrobe.
EYE MAKE UP
A quick word on make up. If you are shortsighted the lens will magnify eyes and show up clumpy mascara and poorly applied eyeshadow. So keep eyeshadow neutral and comb through lashes after applying mascara. Long sighted lenses makes eyes look smaller. So lighten eyeshadow a shade or two and clearly define in the crease to make eyes pop, curl lashes and apply lashing of mascara. For all don’t forget to clearly define eyebrows and ensure neatly plucked/trimmed as glasses bring focus to the area.

Never has there been a time when we need to be more positive then after the last year, the light is at the end of the tunnel. Let us stop complaining and moaning and look towards that light and the dawning of the new era.
We probably all find something or someone to complain about every single day. Every time we complain it sows some negativity seeds within us. Even when it is deserved and we feel it is empowering us, it is exhausting to complain. So let us try to avoid it this week or even just for today. One day at a time ……maybe?
So, today when you feel tempted to complain about the weather, a friend, politics your aches and pains. STOP. Instead of giving in to moaning or getting irritated let it pass. See what it does for your mind and spirit to let it go without comment. Also the people around you benefit too ! This can be harder than you think and by recognising your negativity it can highlight just how often you voice it. Replace those words with positive ones or as they say a wise man says nothing at all.

Otherwise allow an extra hour. Also pre select your outfit and accessories and lay them all out on the bed beforehand. No last minute rummaging or repairs to stress you out.
Pour a glass of bubbles and get some party music on. Put on a fluffy terry robe. Pull hair back. Cleanse face, with a firm facial massage to get the blood pumping and bring a glow to your skin. Now is not the time for micro needling or glyco peeling or using new products.
Scrutinize the eyebrows plucking any stray hairs and tidy them up.
Now time to depilate any excess hair. I suggest a gentle method for your pre party pamper. Apply some cream such as Immac or Veet and while that is working for 10 minutes use that time to body brush the rest of your body .
Jump in the shower to rinse the cream. Gently exfoliate with a handful of sugar and olive oil especially on your depilated areas to avoid ingrown hairs. Wash hair. Finish with a freezing cold burst of water on hair to flatten the cuticles and all over your body to energise you.
Now you are all clean. Draw a warm luxurious bubble bath. HIGHLY RECOMMEND L’OCCITANE LEMON VERBENA FOAM BATH £22. Remember this is about a celebratory pamper not wallowing in your own filth (and depilitary cream!). So to your damp hair apply a rehydrating super glossy hair mask and wrap in a hot towel or turban. My fave is BLEACH LONDON REINCARNATION MASK £7.50.
Apply a no nonsense hydrating sheet mask. An inexpensive but highly effective one I have recently tried is GARNIER MOISTURE BOMB £2.99.
Wallow for a good 15 minutes. Rinse hair mask.
Wrap yourself in a huge warm terry towel. Pat yourself dry. Rub in residue of face mask into skin.
Spritz yourself in a dry body oil to lock in the moisture and make your skin look glistening and healthy. Two fabulous ones are BOOTS NO7 BEAUTIFUL SKIN PAMPERING DRY BODY OIL £12 AND A FIRM FAVOURITE, HUILE PRODIGIEUSE DRY OIL choose the one with the gold sparkle in it. A good tip here run some through dry hair for glistening shine.
Rough dry hair. Put in large velcro rollers for smooth hair if required. Just don’t apply too much heat to hair by overdrawing and over processing. Remember we are going for a glossy just got out of lockdown look !!
Giant rollers in. Time to do your make up. Skin should be looking plumped and glowing. Apply a moisturiser and a base such as MAC STROBE CREAM £25 that now comes in 4 shades. This can make any skin look dewy. Apply your foundation/bb cream over the top. Some over tips for a glossy look use cream products where possible. Finish with an extra glossy nude/beige lip gloss , much more flattering on older lips than bright colours.
Set your make up with my perennial favourite BARRY M DEWY FIXING SPRAY £4.99 I NEVER leave the house without a spritz of this on my face for an all day fresh dewy look.
Rollers out. Run fingers through hair with some iconic KERASTASE HAIR ELIXIR £39 for radiant hair and an extra spritz of shine mist. The best I have tried is BRITISH HAIR PERFECTLY BRILLIANT SHINE SPRAY £9.95 it smells good too.
Heading for the finish line. Just before getting dressed give your body a good shake. Each leg, each arm , your head and shoulders , hands, feet . You will be surprised at this instant energiser. Slip into your clothes. A quick spritz of your favourite perfume. One last look in the mirror to check yourself out . Blow yourself a kiss, tell yourself “I love you” and head out of that door to re establish your social life. HELLO WORLD !
