FOOD AND TRAVEL: DISCOVER 6 OF MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANTS

I know we have been cooped up for far too long. Many of you are probably dreaming of far flung places or just going to eat out at your favourite restaurants. So I thought I would share with you 6 of my favourite restaurants around the world ., my perennial favourites that I have visited on numerous occasions and they are consistently outstanding. Ready for you to make the reservation at the earliest opportunity. Or just inspire you for a few more weeks. Carry on dreaming style bunnies.

LONDON: COYA PICCADILLY

Located in the basement, of a grand building close to The Athaneum Hotel, a restaurant in disguise from the outside you could be forgiven for not noticing. But once inside , this is party central , a whole South American Fiesta as London goes about its business in the streets above. Part of the Arjun Waney stable that includes The Arts Club, Zuma, Roka and La Petit Maison. Fresh Peruvian cuisine several small dishes tapas style. Express Lunch Menu £28. Or try the legendary Saturday Brunch with bottomless cocktails, performers and DJs. Try a Pisco Sour in the Pisco bar. Great vibe here still one of the best in London

USA: NOBU MALIBU

I have tears of joy when I eat here as it is simply utopia. Several of my birthdays have been spent languishing over very long lunches by the ocean (always request an outside table) …..well you cannot possibly leave until the sun sets. The standard Nobu menu (although there is NOTHING standard about this food) but this high end Japanese food always tastes better by the sea. The Black Cod and the Popcorn shrimp are unbelievable. There is a great bar here too overlooking the ocean try a pre lunch salty Margherita .

ITALY: ZUMA ROME

Having attended the opening of Zuma Roma I just kept on returning! Identical menu to Zuma London a firm favourite of mine (well I cant put ALL the Zumas on the list although I would if I could). But the setting is one of the nicest of all the Zuma restaurants and I have been to ALL around the world. Located In Fendi square close to the Spanish Steps Have pre dinner drinks on the roof terrace with a fabulous view of Rome. Order the spicy beef tenderloin and the sea bass with burnt tomato and ginger relish oh and the spicy tuna tataki and…. I literally could carry on. If you cant get to Rome try ANY Zuma close to you they are all amazing.

DUBAI: BAR 101 THE PALM

A firm favourite since it opened 10 years ago, I last visited in January , a couple of months ago. It is still amazing. The setting is outstanding, the food unbelievable , go for the crab risotto or the salt baked sea bass, and the live band from 4pm rounded the visit off beautifully. Quite hard to reach as it is on the tip of one of the palms or can be reached by speed boat. As it appears to be floating on a jetty in the middle of the ocean. It is part of the One and Only Hotel on the Palm. Seek it out !

FRANCE: FEU FOLLETT MOUGINS

Mougins is situated just outside Cannes in the Provence region of South of France. I lived here for 10 years so I know the region and the restaurants very well. A cornucopia of gastronomic places to eat Feu Follett remains one of my favourites located in Old Mougins in a square that look like a film set ! There are set menus for lunch and dinner of truly superb food in a memorable setting. Tres romantique!

JERSEY: MARK JORDAN ON THE BEACH

Gorgeous setting overlooking the beach at St Peters. The menu is amazing value at £27.50 for three courses at lunchtime of Michelin star quality food. Even the a la carte Dinner menu is exceptional value and they serve my very favourite of skate wing with capers and prawns (£19.50) but unmissable is the widely talked about Strawberry Souffle . If you are visiting Jersey be sure to stop by and try some of the best food in Jersey possibly the world !

FOOD: FIGHTING ARTHIRITIS WITH DIET

Arthritis can hit you at any age. but as you get older or menopausal it is more common than you think. Many of us suffer from stiff joints. I was diagnosed with Osteoarthiritis in my spine about 10 years ago in my early forties. At the time I was walking with two sticks and having regular steroid injections in my spine under anaesthetic. My prognosis was ” you will not get any better but we cannot say how fast it will deteriorate” when it spread to my fingers, elbows and toes, I sprang into action.

Today I play tennis, do yoga have a full and active life and no longer use sticks and definitely no more steroids. Even my consultant has noted down full details of how I fought arthritis and won.

So today I am going to share with you my anti inflammatory diet.Passed to me by a friend in Hollywood. The town of all things healthy. This changed my life and I notice an immediate improvement if you stick to it for 3 days per month only. As I have been busy for the last few months I have omitted for the first time in having my anti inflammatory diet days and my joints have noticeably started to stiffen again.

It consists of a smoothie, hot drink and a soup. You can have as much as you want . I have JUST this. But if you need some solid food stick to fish and vegetables. NO red meat, sugar, carbs, eggs or chicken. No dairy, (cheese is difficult to give up for me ) and absolutely NO COFFEE!! Keep it fairly simple so your body does not have to work too hard.

Smoothie

1 Lime , cranberries, blueberries,cucumber,spoonful of avocado,a few walnuts, teaspoon of spirulina(alkaline).

Whizz up in your blender with lots of ice ( it always tastes better chilled).

Have every morning on an empty stomach.

Hot Drink

Make enough in one go to drink throughout the day so you can let it steep.

Boil in a big pan. 8 lemons, 8 tablespoons of dried parsley,3 tablespoons celery seed,1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder,1/4 grated ginger root. 10 cups of water.

Once billed just leave it to steep. Sieve the tea. Then once cooled leave in a jug in the refrigerator. Heat up and drink throughout the day or have chilled in the Summer months.

Soup

Make a big pot for you to have throughout the day.

2 cups of root vegetables, parsnips, carrots, swede. 2 cups of sweet potato, 2 cups of greens (preferably kale), 1 red onion, 5 celery stalks, a cup of mixed mushrooms, garlic and fresh coriander.

Boil then simmer for an hour. Blend to a puree add more water to achieve a consistency you prefer. This soup does not look pretty but it is actually delicious. When my friends visit and I am on my anti inflammatory days they always love a bowl of this, in fact I am sure they pop around on purpose !!!

Treat yourself gently during these 3 days lots of Epsom salts baths or book a professional lymphatic massage.

I hope this works for you in easing the inflammation like it works for me, but you lose nothing by trying…..except perhaps some excess weight and the sugar ring around your waist.

JOJOS STYLELIST TIP: IF YOU SUFFER FROM INFLAMMATION GIVE THE BODY TIME TO REST I TRY TO ONLY EAT IN A 4 HOUR WINDOW BETWEEN 1-5PM. THIS GIVES YOUR BODY TIME TO HEAL AND CALM. YOU WOULD BE INFLAMED IF YOU WORKED CONSTANTLY TOO !!

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY OR 3 DAYS SHOULD I SAY

GREEN JUICE

Those of you that follow me on my channel will know I only eat one meal a day between 1pm and 5pm. But I like to start my day with a green juice to ensure I get plenty of vitamins and the bulk of my 5 a day out of the way. Even though I sometimes make a berry smoothie generally it is healthier to stick to veggies as they produce less sugar on juicing. Happy juicing guys !

My Green Juice

The benefits are huge and I could go on for ever but I am sure you have other things to get on with !!! Let me summarise in simple bullet points:

  • Bathes body in rich plant nutrients

  • Chlorophyll detoxes the liver
  • Antioxidants to promote healthy skin.
  • Hydration
  • Medicinal adding healing foods to counteract specific ailments (more on this later)

BASIC INGREDIENTS

I used to use spinach but there have been some warnings about unhealthy amounts of cadmium levels but I am investigating this and will get back to you with more informed advice.

  • Kale (one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet)
  • Cucumber (95% water great for hydration)
